Oisín Byrne is an Irish artist, writer and filmmaker based in London. Byrne's artwork often incorporates elements of language, drawing, painting and video. The foundation of Byrne's art practice is drawing. He considers even his paintings to be a form of drawing. In his artwork there is a focus on personal musings, experimental thoughts and the constant interplay between the self and the external world. Byrne incorporates vibrant colours and various textures to create a playful yet introspective engagement with his audience. He has worked across many different disciplines and has collaborated with a wide variety of professionals from various fields. This has included collaborations with fashion designers, composers, film directors and astrophysicists.
Oisín Byrne received his BA from NCAD Dublin and his MFA from Goldsmiths University London. Byrne's work has been exhibited internationally in institutions including Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute, Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Kunstinstituut Melly, Salzburger Kunstverein, EVA International and Princeton University. His work is also significantly represented in the Irish State Collection. Byrne's writing has been published in Eros Press, Pilot Press, MA Bibliotheque and Bookworks. Byrne is an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins and London College of Communications.
