Janie George lives and works in Bristol. Her work includes painting, printmaking and ceramics. She has a special interest in colour and our relationship with the natural world. She is a member of Jamaica Street Artists Studios and is a regular exhibitor at the RWA. Her prints and paintings have been shown widely both in Britain and internationally. Last year her painting was chosen for a judges award at the Jackson’s Art Prize.
Janie George studied a BA in Printmaking at WSCAD, Farnham in the early 1980’s. She later took an MA at the Slade School, UCL, and later worked there as a teaching assistant in the early 90’s. Returning to the West country she taught printmaking at Bath Spa University for fourteen years before moving to Bristol where she currently works as a lecturer at Bristol School of Art.
Teaching is an important part of Janie's creative activity, and she sees it as a shared experience enabling different perspectives to examine the fleeting beauty of the world.
